Inside American Slavery: What Really Happened
Inside American Slavery contains translated quotes dictated by former American slaves during interviews conducted by the US government in the 1930s. Accompanied by archival photographs, these narratives unveil little-known details of events within American history. Originally transcribed in southern dialect, the quotes have been translated into Standard English for this introductory mini-book.
For decades, some of these American elders had been withholding certain truths. A few worried about repercussions for telling even mundane information while others were fearful of the possibility of the return of slavery. As a result, many refrained from revealing particular secrets.
